Permit and notification requirements depend on the project, location, substrate, contaminant, waste stream, building type, and site conditions. Laser cleaning may avoid some permits associated specifically with abrasive blasting, but environmental, building, fire, hazardous-material, waste, or other requirements can still apply.

In suitable applications, laser cleaning can be performed in place and may reduce teardown or shutdown time. Production-area work still requires site-specific controls for laser exposure, process emissions, adjacent equipment, contamination risk, access, and facility procedures.
